Below
is a list of frequently asked questions
that may help you prepare for your upcoming trip.
Will I need Identification at the airport? What if I am only 15
years old?
Yes. No matter the method of aircraft boarding utilized by your
group, all persons 18 years of age or older must carry a valid government
issued photo identification (i.e. driver’s license, passport,
etc.). The legal name on this identification card must match the
name on your travel documents exactly. If there is any spelling
or other discrepancy, please notify Campus Get-Aways immediately.
All
persons 17 years of age or less are not required to present a photo
identification when traveling with a parent or chaperone (In this
case, their director or coach). HOWEVER-- PLEASE NOTE: It is recommended
that all persons carry some form of identification (i.e. driver’s
license or school ID) if it is available. This is especially true
if the student is 16-17 years of age and physically appears to be
in the 18 year old age range. This is because if you appear to be
18 or more, you may have to prove your age (with, ironically enough,
a photo ID). So our end recommendation is this; all persons 16 or
over should carry their driver's license with them. Any student
yet to receive their driver's license should carry their school
photo ID if available. As in all airline travel, lack of proper
identification could result in denied boarding of the aircraft.
Do
I need an airline ticket or boarding pass prior to arrival at the
airport?
Students, no, Tag-Alongs, yes. Specifically, all persons boarding
a plane must have either a ticket, an electronic ticket receipt
(e-ticket), or boarding pass (For those schools that utilize a chartered
aircraft). Your school group leader will receive the students' airline
tickets/boarding passes in advance of travel and distribute them
upon arrival at the airport. For Tag-Along Fans, as you are responsible
for these items yourself, you will receive your tickets/boarding
passes from Campus Get-Aways a few weeks prior to travel.
Remember,
your airline ticket/boarding pass is needed for entry onto the plane
and will be the only document you will receive for airline travel,
please do not lose it.
Do I choose who I sit with on the plane?
We will take care of that for you. To the extent allowed by the
airlines, all airline seating assignments will be made based upon
hotel rooming assignments. This is true for both students and Tag-Along
Fans. However, should you have a special condition, please contact
our office to discuss the matter further.
Will
I be checking myself into the hotel?
No. All rooms will be checked into and keyed prior to your arrival
at the hotel. Please note your school's itinerary for hotel arrival
time, as this is usually at the end of your first day. Upon arrival
at the hotel via private motorcoach, you will be unloaded adjacent
to your building. A Campus Get-Aways representative will be waiting
with your luggage and keys upon arrival at the hotel.
If I am a Tag-Along, can I check into the hotel early?
In Orlando, Tag-Along fans who wish to skip planned activities and
check into the hotel early may do so, provided they find their own
transportation back to the hotel. However, please be aware that
rooms are not guaranteed to be ready until 5:00pm, and usually aren't.
If you do return to the hotel early, you will need to stand in line
at the front desk to get a copy of your key (You will need a photo
ID). Your luggage will be unloaded on the closest curb to your building
at the regularly scheduled time. You will not be able to access
your luggage early.
Will
I be able to use the phones in my room?
Upon check-in, room phones will be activated to receive calls, to
place room-to-room calls, and to make emergency calls. Direct dial
long distance phone calls will be deactivated but you can make collect
or credit card calls from these telephones. Additionally, there
are pay telephones available in the lobby of the hotel. Experience
has shown that the deactivation of long distance access does not
always happen in a timely manner; therefore, please be aware that
any directly dialed long distance calls will be charged to the occupants
of the room. The rate is approximately $1.00 per minute plus surcharge.
(We obviously recommend against this).
Tag-Along
Fans, not students, may put a credit card down at the front desk
to charge meals or incidentals to their card as well as the use
of the telephones.
Will I need to "Check-Out" of my room?
No. Just like check in, this will be taken care of for you by Campus
Get-Aways. However, Tag-Along Fans who choose to open a credit card
account on their room must check-out and close their account by
themselves.
What will I do with my luggage on the final day?
On the final morning of your trip, we will let you know where to
bring your luggage for storage until the end of the day. (Please
reference your itinerary for exact times.) Although procedures will
differ from city to city and depending on airport allowances, we
may pre-check your bags onto the plane; therefore, you should not
plan on seeing your luggage until you arrive back home. This means
you should be certain not to pack your photo identification or any
important medicines. As in your initial flight, any bags not placed
on the truck during the specified time period will become a carry-on
bag and you will be responsible for the bags throughout your final
day.
Will
lockers be available to store bags at the Theme Parks we visit?
If you travel with any carry-on items or if you would like to bring
items with you to the park each day, rental lockers are available
for your convenience just inside the entrance of all Theme Parks.
These lockers are rented for a daily fee. Usage throughout the day
is limitless and part of your rental fee will be returned to you
upon the return of your key to the attendant. The cost per day is
approximately $5.00 per day but varies per location.
How much money will a student need on the trip?
We like to say that they will likely spend all that they are given.
However, practically speaking, most Campus Get-Aways trips are virtually
all inclusive. Typically, students will need to pay for one meal
out of the day-lunch. Also, remember that tourist areas usually
charge a little more for food and services. Other than that, the
only thing your student will be responsible for will be snacks and
souvenirs.
Do I need to get Traveler's Checks for my student or are there other
options?
This is largely a personal choice depending on your student and
the amount of money they will be carrying. However, our experience
shows that today, most students are familiar with ATM & Credit
cards. As ATM machines are available all across the country and
are readily accessible, many times, the use of an ATM card is in
fact the safest and easiest method of accessing money while traveling.
Additionally, credit cards are accepted virtually everywhere and
provide the same convenience for larger and/or souvenir purchases.
However, if your student is unfamiliar with or uncomfortable with
using cards, Traveler's Checks make a great alternative. Always
remember, it is a good idea to start your student off with a little
cash, not only to build responsibility, but to allow for the quick
purchase of snacks or other small items during the course of travel.
If
you are traveling out of the country, be sure to check out the International
Travel page for even more details on exchanging money overseas.
Will I be able to contact my student while they are traveling?
Yes. All students (and Tag-Along Fans) will be registered into the
hotel under their name. Just prior to departure, you will receive
specific information including the hotel's address and phone number.
Anyone who needs to reach a traveler can do so through the hotel.
Also,
in the event of an emergency, you will have other options available.
You will also receive, prior to travel, emergency contact numbers
for the leader of your group and the Campus Get-Aways tour representative
that will be accompanying the group. You can always call these numbers
and contact your chaperones to reach your student.
Can I separate from the group and go where I like while on the trip?
Students, no. You are a part of the group and must remain under
the supervision of your chaperones at all times while on the trip.
Tag-Along
Fans, yes. If you would like to alter your schedule while on the
trip, you certainly can make any changes you would like. However,
please be aware that you will be responsible for your own transportation
while doing so and you will not receive any refunds for any planned
activities or meals that you may miss.
Can
I eat meals on the itinerary at a different time or by myself?
All meals planned into your itinerary, (i.e. Planet Hollywood or
Rain Forest Cafe) are group reservation functions and available
only at the time listed in your itinerary. Should you choose not
to eat with the group, you will not be able to obtain your meal
through an individual seating and, you will not be eligible for
a refund.
Will I be able to attend Religious Services on the trip?
Most Parochial schools include Religious Services in their itineraries.
However, individuals traveling with other schools certainly may
attend Religious Services, but are responsible for your own transportation
to and from the Services. (Groups staying on Disney property can
utilize the Disney Transportation system.) Students attending Services
must also be accompanied by a school chaperone. Note: If you
would like to attend any Services, please let us know in advance
of travel so that we may properly prepare for the request by acquiring
schedules and directions to the services.
